Today I awoke in what surely had to be the world’s worst Holiday Inn, true it was under renovation, but I hadn’t been advised and it was only fit for closure during the work!
A strong sea wind was blowing in from the beach and thankfully the airborne sand blasting, failed to extend as far in as Atomic.
A quick stop for gas and I was off to the local Mall to pick up a number of items for my wife and daughter who had been with my every step of the way, although sadly in spirit only.
Already in protect and preserve mode, I parked as far away from any other vehicle as I could manage – it served another purpose, returning to Atomic would see me walking from a good distance away with her in full sight and me grinning every step of the way.
Back on the road and on the final leg, I was mindful that many ‘incidents’ occur on the home stretch so to speak, so extra care was made to think for others as well as my own path.
I arrived at the shipping company and naturally took some more images for posterity before emptying Atomic of my belongings.
The paperwork done and with a cab awaiting, I returned outside and Atomic had
already been moved to the secure area, ready to be placed in a container with another car bound for England.
It’s certainly the strangest feeling to drive off having left your pride and joy with total strangers and not knowing when you might see it again, but for now I had to put Atomic out of my mind, we would hopefully be reunited within a month and my mind was still fresh and buzzing from one of the great highlights of my life.
For me, ahead was a 7 hour wait at Miami
International and an 18 hour door to door journey - just another day
really!
To all those I have met these past few days, it's been an absolute pleasure and who knows, I may even bring Atomic back to America
one day to drive coast to coast and perhaps I might just make that calendar as some have suggested to me in emails.
