The container ship finally arrived at
Felixstowe Port in England on December 28th having encountered some stormy
seas enroute. Naturally, with the festive holiday season in full swing
nothing could be done to secure the release, so the clock ticked on.
With UK Customs cleared, one final 24
hour delay came when unpacking of the ship was halted by a "systems
Failure", but on Friday January 4th, Atomic finally 'set foot' on UK
soil under the traditional cloudy British Winter skies. Sadly it came too
late in the day to enable me to get across to the port, so the reunion was
set for Monday 7th.

Rather fittingly, the
sun was out on the Monday morning as I made the 3 hours journey to the
port. I had to sign in and obtain a security pass to gain access and
naturally, confirm ownership. Finally, I was told where 'Atomic' sat
waiting and to check all was in order before signing to confirm receipt.
I was naturally nervous as I rounded the
corner, what would I find? Having heard a few horror stories with regard
to damage to cars, I needn't have worried as there she sat still looking
as stunning as ever, although she was looking somewhat lost, surrounded by trucks and
containers and with various layers of
Florida dust, sand, some sea salt and of course, her first layer of dirty
British rain!

Following all my checks,
I was delighted the she was unmarked and my worries about the battery
being flat were for nothing, even the windows didn't require a re-program!
Paperwork completed, I fired her up and,
finally she was freed to my care and out we headed onto the UK roads for
the first time. No sooner had we left the docks than she started to
seduce people, be it at the gas station, passing a high school or at the shipping company
offices where I had to stop to collect the Certificate Of Title. My parents were astounded how much attention
Atomic got...I was not!

The journey home was steady and uneventful. As the car is not yet UK compliant, I took things easy and simply enjoyed being behind the
wheel of her once again. The on set of rain prevented any photos (not that there
were any real photographic moments to be honest!) but finally, after a
journey of 5000 miles, Atomic reached her new home in Northamptonshire,
England, having left Cape Coral, Florida, USA some 52 days earlier -
Needless to say, it was an epic first journey...and the first of many!

Special thanks go to Jamie Richardson
at RJJ Freight
for these 'UK Landing' photos and of course, for his assistance in
shipping the car to England.
